Beliefs

Our full statement of faith is the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 linked below.  However for quick sampling of some of our distinctions we like to highlight the following.

I. Scripture
We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God. It was written by approximately forty authors, in three languages, over a period of about 1,500 years, on three continents, yet it conveys one central message. This message is summarized best in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

II. Justification by Faith
Providence is a church in the historic, orthodox stream of Protestantism. We believe that an individual is saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone. As stated in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

III. Providence
We believe in a BIG God who is both sovereign and good. Because He is sovereign, we can trust that He is in control, even when life doesn’t make sense. Because He is good, we can have confidence that, whether in this life or in glory, “He will work all things together for the good of those who love Christ Jesus, who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

IV. Regenerate Church Membership
While anyone and everyone is welcome to attend Providence, actual membership is reserved for those who have trusted in Christ as their Lord and Savior. Church membership is not for the "varsity level" Christian; rather, it is an integral part of what it means to be a Christian. It is far more than having a name on a roll; it is a covenant community committed to the Lord and to one another, encouraging each member toward faith and good works. As stated in Hebrews 10:24-25, "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."
